Funding will support translation of high school economics program into Azerbaijani
|
JA Azerbaijan has been awarded a grant from MetLife Foundation to translate JA Exploring Economics™ into Azerbaijani. The program teaches high school students about fundamental economic concepts and their effect on U.S. and global markets, the role government plays within a market economy, and how economic principles guide business decisions. MetLife Foundation provided major funding for development and implementation of JA Exploring Economics.
Four JA operations received the 2009 translation grants, which were announced during JA Worldwide® Annual Conference, July 20-24. The other three recipients were: Junior Achievement Colombia, Junior Achievement Mexico and Junior Achievement Macedonia.
“JA Exploring Economics helps students understand a complex subject using hands-on learning, which makes it engaging and accessible,” said Vusal Khanlarov, the Executive Director of JA Azerbaijan. “Junior Achievement programs such as this one prepare students to compete effectively in the workforce and fully participate in a global economy.”
“MetLife Foundation shares JA’s commitment to teaching young people about financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship,” said Dennis White, president of MetLife Foundation. “We are pleased to make this contribution to JA Azerbaijan to translate JA Exploring Economics and prepare young people to succeed in the global economy.”
